It's been a long road, but I've enjoyed every minute of my journey. I went into the Army after high school graduation and grew 2 inches while I was there! I came home and my mom didn't even recognize me. When I got back I started my career as a police officer. I worked for awhile in Will County before becoming an investigator with Hoopeston's Police Department for about 20 years. In 2000, I decided I wanted my own department and became the Chief of Police for Onarga. But the pay was terrible and that's when I figured out I could make a LOT more money in corporate investigations. I took a job with FedEx investigating crimes within the company and across the nation. I moved my family to the Indianapolis area and am enjoying my health and family. I'm happily married to my beautiful wife Traci and we have six amazing children, two grandsons, and two spoiled Dobermans.
I never really cared for high school, but Miss Mills was my favorite teacher - she should have been, I sat next to her desk the most. I wish I would have listened to her more though because I have always struggled with English. (Did I mention I married a newspaper reporter? LOL. I must be drawn to English majors.)
Here is a funny story though.
When I was a deputy sheriff with Will County I happened to pull over a car, and guess what? Yep, it was Miss Mills. I asked her for her driver's license (I hadn't recognized it was her at this point) and when I saw her name I asked if she taught at Clifton Central. She said yes and I said do you remember me? When I told her my name (because she also hadn't recognized me) she said, "Oh my God, you did amount to something!!"
That was pretty funny. Oh, by the way, she was speeding in a construction zone and no, I did NOT give her a ticket.
Another story from high school - I had actually forgotten about it until I talked with Cathy this morning - was my junior year when we were on our way back from the Kankakee Area Career Center on a bus and the brakes went out on the bus. The bus driver attempted to turn the bus at a high rate of speed, causing the bus to tip over. When the bus tipped over I was on the side that hit the ground and had a ton of people land on top of me. Thankfully, all I suffered from was a sprained neck. I wish I had been a cop back then, I would have given her a ticket (and I was never a traffic cop - I never gave tickets), but she was driving too fast! Anyway, I guess Steve Emme was on the bus with me. I must have blacked out those memories because I can't even tell you who landed on top of me or who else was on that bus. Feel free to jog my memory - my age must be getting to me.
