Would anyone who has their class grade school photos please scan and email them so we can put those on the website?

Thanks!

Hi again,

By "vintage grade school photos", I mean those old 8x10s that have 30 (or whatever number was in your class) little headshots on them.

Please reply on the forum so we know who has what years, so several people (is that wishful thinking?!) aren't taking time to scan and send the same year.

Thanks!

The Chebanse Historical Society has all the class photos for 1 through 6 grades (West Acres Grade School 1 thru 3 and Elmwood School 4 thru 6) for the era correct to our class. It should be no problem getting a scan of them. Will look into getting this done tomorrow. This would be for Chebanse grade schools only. Does Clifton and Ashkum have similar historical groups?

BTW, does anyone wonder where the name "Comets" ever came from for Clifton Central? If so, wonder no more. Take a look at this 1939 Chebanse High School Newspaper (click the link above) out of my collection.  Maybe we need a school trivia section, or something similar.  sse

Made a few calls yesterday, and finally got in contact with a lady by the name of Dorla Cooper, who is in charge of the Chebanse Historical Society. She tells me the school related items are in some disarray. Mentioned to her I had seen everything I was interested in scanning, 5 years ago (which was the last time I was in the history rooms). We are going to get together, and she will let me look through what is there, probably doing this next month.

Dorla expressed that there is no interest in the history room anymore, as the old Chebanse residents are in bad health, or have passed away. The younger residents are not anchor, legacy type Chebanse families who have any interest in the history of the Chebanse area. Seems like today's younger residents have no interest in the past, and only worry about what is directly in front of them.

Anyway, I know all the Chebanse School photos are there and possibly some or all of the Clifton and Ashkum photos too. Will work on obtaining them.

Hi Steve,

I LOVE that there is a Chebanse Historical Society.  Sad to hear that there isn't much interest in it.  Didn't Scott Sweeney say he was a history buff?  Maybe he wasn't talking HOMETOWN history, but maybe he WAS!  (Scott, are you listening?!)

Anyway, Steve, we're thankful for your interest and your willingness to dig up the old photos.  Great energy!

Thanks,

Marla

Hi Marla,

I treasure every minute that is spent going through all the great old pieces in the Chebanse Historical Society rooms. Going to try and get down to Chebanse next week, and see just how much a mess things are in. If Dorla needs help getting things back in order, I could go to Chebanse and help her, while keeping an eye open for items related to our class. My daughter goes back to Italy Monday, and will try and get something done after that.

Am glad to help out in any way I can. This website is just a great way for some to reconnect, or others to make a connection that was not made 36-40 years ago.

Steve
